Position Statement

Communication is the key to empowerment and survival for any race of people. Media, such as radio, television, and newspaper, help to shape the images of a people.

Today, there are only a few Black-owned radio stations, and most of them do not have a programming format that caters to Black folks. In fact, many cities have zero Black-owned radio stations. Blacks own fewer newspaper today, and they do not own any major television networks. Black bookstores are closing at a rapid rate, and most major-chain bookstores stock less than 100 titles authored by Blacks. Even so, the books they sell are not the books that empower Blacks intellectually, nor do these books provide information leading to the liberation of Blacks.

If mainstream America can conduct business globally, why can’t Black folks do the same? At the very least, we can conduct business on a domestic level. People in California can do business with a business in Tennessee. It is time to think "outside the box." Our survival depends on such.
